SPRINGFIELD, NJ - The Dayton baseball team started this week with a quick hello and exit in the Union County Tournament.

Connor Scanlon pitched a five-hitter with two earned runs, one walk, and two runs scored and Alex Pansini had three hits with two runs scored to lead fourth-seeded Westfield to an 11-2 victory over 13th-seeded Dayton in the first round of the Union County Tournament in Westfield on Monday.

Jake Lerie had four singles with an RBI and a run scored and Kobi Wolf added three hits with two RBI and three runs scored for Westfield, which advanced to Wednesday's quarterfinals at home against 12th-seeded Rahway.

Chris Wagner had two hits with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored and Matt LaCorte posted two hits with a triple, two RBI, and two runs scored for Westfield.

Westfield (7-7), which has won three straight games after losing four in a row, will host 12th-seeded Rahway in Wednesday’s quarterfinals at 4 p.m.

Junior Jack Quinn had a double with two RBI, junior Jeffrey Carrier added two hits with a double, and senior Anthony Monguso and junior William Hodic each had a run scored for Dayton (8-3), which has dropped three of its last four games.

The Bulldogs get right back on the diamond with a two-game home stand at historic Ruby Field, starting with Plainfield today and rival Brearley Thursday, with both first pitches at 4 p.m.
