SPRINGFIELD, NJ — When the curtain rises tonight, the culmination of several months of work will pay off for the cast and crew of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, the fall drama this year at Jonathan Dayton High School.
The show, adapted from a book of the same name and winner of the Tony award for best play during its run on Broadway centers around the story fo Christopher, a young neurodivergent boy who sets out to find the culprit when his neighbor's dog is found dead.
Along the way, he goes on a journey of self-discovery, and finds out more than he could have ever imagined.
For Felicity Winter, who plays one of Christopher's neighbors, Mrs. Alexander, the work done by the cast and crew has been nothing short of spectacular.
"I think that we've all done a tremendous amount of work on this show," Winter said. "Sarah [Zarember], obviously has done so much work. Also, all of the company members have put in so much to the show. There would be no show without them.
"I'm really excited for our tech crew to get to show off all the work that they've done, because they got to do so much more with the show than we did last year.I think that they had a lot of fun with it, and we had a lot of fun getting to work with them on it."
On the technical side, Stage Manager Lauren Schultz echoed Winter's remarks about the crew aspect of the show. The play is unlike anything that has been undertaken by the drama department in years past, which has led to some new hurdles and learning.
"There are a lot of different actions that we have to do in sync with each other,"Schultz said. "So we have to make sure we're able to communicate with each other very clearly. Because otherwise, we'll have everything happening at different times and it won't come out looking the way that we want it to."
Schultz added that it all comes down to making sure everyone is where they need to be for both performances, and just making sure everything goes down as planned.
Curious Incident opens tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Halsey Hall auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online at the following link https://jdhscuriousincident.brownpapertickets.com/ or in person at the door.
