SPRINGFIELD, NJ - With Veteran's Day on the immediate horizon, attention turns to Springfield's military history, and all of the residents who have served over the years.
Yesterday evening at Mosaic, the Springfield Hometown Heroes foundation yet another fundraising event in a long list of events, looking to raise more funds to pay for the banners now up along the main street in town.
The most recent event was a bourbon tasting, in which attendees got to try four different types of bourbon paired with four different dishes. Along with each round, one of four bourbons were served.
"Me and Maria Vassallo, Linda Donnelly, Geri Bujnowski; we work really hard to make these events special," said Hometown Heroes Co-Drector Vicki Sarracino. "We're getting more of a following, which is kind of really great for us, because it's a nice night out, and we try to make it a little interesting and fun for everybody."
Sarracino also said that the organization currently has 40 banners, but that by Veteran's Day, she should receive more responses.
At the end of the night, a raffle drawing was also held. Attendees were all looking to win one of two bottles as a prize, although everyone left with at least a small door prize.
