SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The Springfield Free Public Library will offer a screening of Cactus Flower, a 1969 comedy starring Walter Matthau, Ingrid Bergman and Goldie Hawn and for which Hawn won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 13.   Capturing the “trippy” sensibility of its time, the movie’s score by Quincy Jones has been described in Wikipedia as “psychedelic and sunshine pop” and includes covers of songs by The Monkees while also including a track by Sarah Vaughan among others.    A 2011 remake of Cactus Flower, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston, was titled Just Go With It.

The screening of Cactus Flower is part of the library’s 1969 retrospective film series that features  movies which were popular during the year of the library’s opening at its current location.   The final installment in the series will be a screening of They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” on Monday, December 16.

This program is free and open to all members of the general public.   The Springfield Free Public Library is located at 66 Mountain Avenue; the main entrance to the library is located on Hanna Street, with a side entrance also available from the parking lot located next to the Rescue Squad building.  More information about the library can be found at www.springfieldpubliclibrary.com.
