SPRINGFIELD, NJ - With the summer winding down, staff and administrators at the Springfield Community Pool hosted a Summer Carnival celebration for children in attendance on Saturday afternoon.

The celebration held plenty of fun things to do, as the pool staff had rented out a bouncy house for the children to jump in while also providing games, face painting, and cotton candy. Along with its fun and games, the carnival also contained a charitable component.

The money raised from the auction taking place all afternoon, as well as the cotton candy being spun,  was sent to the American Cancer Society. As a result, the afternoon also had a charitable feel.

For Erin McNany, the main event planner and activities assistant at the pool as well as a recreation assistant in the rec department, this final capper to the children's summer season was a great way for her to begin wrapping up her duties at the pool.

"I believe in the last few years, [the rec department] did an end of summer luau," McNany said. Since this is my first year as part of the activities for the pool, I kind of wanted to put my own spin on it. So I decided a carnival could be fun, with inflatables and cotton candy and everything."

"I think we got a lot done this summer," McNany added. "A lot of new things, a lot of old things that go on here...I got to know a lot of the kids [and parents] in the community that I didn't know before."

One of the people enjoying the afternoon's activities was Daniel Kotkin. Kotkin was therewith his wife Beth and son Jacob, who was busy enjoying the bounce house. Kotkin said that he and his family were excited and happy to have the event come together.

"We are very excited and thrilled that Springfield is hosting such a wonderful program for the children in this neighborhood," Kotkin said. "We're very happy to bring our little boy, Jacob. He's having a lot of fun."

At the end of the day, raffle winners for each of the prizes were announced. Along with the aforementioned activities, the pool also ring toss, cornhole, temporary tattoos and scratch art, among other activities.
