SPRINGFIELD, NJ — While the mayor's update will no longer be a regular occurrence in town, Springfield mayor Chris Capodice briefly brought back the announcements to clarify the latest totals, as well as provide information on pools being allowed to reopen and programs available from the library.

Springfield had no new cases of COVID-19, and 1 new death, previously recorded in another district, totalling 246 positive tests and 22 deaths. Union County has 27 new cases of COVID-19, and 2 new deaths, totaling 16,241 positive tests and 1,100 deaths. The State of New Jersey currently has 356 new cases of COVID-19 and 40 new deaths, bringing the state total number to 164,497  positive tests, and 12,214 COVID-19 related deaths.

Updated Hospitalization Numbers

  • 1,740 patients are hospitalized

  • 498 patients are in critical condition

  • 361 patients are on ventilators

  • 94 patients admitted

  • 112 patients discharged

The Latest from Governor Phil Murphy

  • The Governor will announce today that pools can open on June 22

  • Guidance from the Department of Health will come out tomorrow regarding rules and regulations for reopening.

  • There will be guidance forthcoming about Personal Care Businesses

  • Guidance has to come from the Department of Cosmetology and it’s expected to be released by tomorrow.

  • Nail salons are included but massage parlors and tattoo parlors are still in question.

  • Later today there will be guidance on summer camps both municipal and private.

  • The Governor’s office is encouraging anyone who participated in one of the many peaceful protests to get tested.

The Springfield Free Public Library is pleased to partner with the Alzheimer's Association, Greater New Jersey chapter, to present "Keeping it Sharp!" from 6:30 to 7:30 PM on the second Wednesday of each month.   Virtual meetings via zoom will begin on June 10.
