SPRINGFIELD, NJ — After being selected as a finalist earlier this academic year, one Jonathan Dayton High School student was named among the many winners in a nationwide scholarship competition.
Lillian Friedman is among the students chosen as one of the National Merit Scholarship winners nationwide. Each student received a scholarship worth $2,500 from the National Merit Scholarship Committee (NMSC) for their selection.
Friedman was identified in the release as going into the field of biology as a probable career. Freidman's scholarship was underwritten by the Gates Industrial Corporation Foundation, part of Tomkins Gates.
According to the release from the NMSC, National Merit $2500 Scholarship winners are the finalists in each state judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.
