SPRINGFIELD, NJ - As part of National Voter Registration Day, the Springfield Free Public Library will play host to a voter drive designed to increase civic engagement.

On Tuesday, September 24, 2019, as part of a nation-wide effort, The League of Women Voters of the Union Area will register voters at the Springfield Free Public Library from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their right to vote. More than two million Americans have registered to vote since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day took place.

While this year's election cycle is an off-year, outside of the presidential or mid-term races, the group still believes that every eligible American voter should exercise his or her right to be heard at the ballot box over the next few years.

According to a press release sent out by group member Debbie Neher, thousands of national, state, and local organizations and volunteers will be the driving force behind National Voter Registration Day 2019.

The event's website, www.NationalVoterRegistrationDay.org, provides a listing of National Voter Registration Day events across the country.

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, is dedicated to ensuring that all eligible voters – including first-time voters, non-college youth, new citizens, minorities, the elderly and low-income Americans – have the opportunity and the information to exercise their right to vote.
