SPRINGFIELD, NJ - A committee of local residents led by Township Committeewoman Maria Vassallo will be recognizing and honoring local veterans by placing their names, pictures and dates of service on banners to be displayed on Mountain Avenue in Springfield.  

According to Maria, "Our mission is to honor every resident veteran, past and present."
The Committee is aligned with the New Jersey Veteran's Network (, an organization designed to connect veterans with resources to meet their unique needs.
A Facebook page has been set up called "Springfield NJ Hometown NJ Heroes" to publicize the effort and collect data on veterans living in Springfield.  
The first fund raiser will be held on May 18 at Spirit Eatery and Social Drinks on 250 Morris Avenue in Springfield.  The donation will be $30, which includes food.  There will be a cash bar.  Proceeds raised will be used to fund the banner project. is Springfield’s free daily news source.
