SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The latest message from Springfield Mayor Chris Capodice yesterday afternoon updated the latest COVID-19 totals at the local, county and state level, as well as additional information regarding the testing center at Kean University and a new tax deadline.
As of yesterday's message, Springfield has 1 new case of COVID-19, totalling 151 positive tests and 3 deaths. Union County has 208 new cases of COVID-19, and 31 new deaths, totaling 7,438 positive tests and 269 deaths. The State of New Jersey currently has 2,625 new cases of COVID-19 and 351 new deaths, bringing the state total number to 71,030 positive tests, and 3,156 COVID-19 related deaths.
Out of the 71,030 positive tests cases in New Jersey, 8,270 have been hospitalized.
- 1,980 patients are in critical care
- 1,705 patients are on ventilators
- 39 patients are in field hospitals
- 709 patients have been discharged
The Kean testing site had another record day yesterday administering 680 tests. The wait time for test results, originally taking 48-72 hours has now been reduced to 24-48 hours. Additionally, patients are now given login information to access an online portal, so they may access their results more quickly.
There have been 560,000 unemployment claims in New Jersey. 92% were filed online – 50% of these have gone through with no issues and residents are getting their funds within 2-3 weeks of original filing date. The New Jersey Department of Labor is trying to automate as many processes as possible, which should clear up about 60% of the issues the other 50% of claimants are having.
Tax filing deadline has been moved from April 15th to July 15th 2020.
