SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Friday afternoon, the Springfield Township Committee met in order to pass a trio of resolutions that required action before their next full meeting.

Two of the resolutions dealt with construction and public improvements. The third and final one authorized Springfield's Assistant Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Diane Sherry to have access to the cash accounts in town and become a signer on said accounts.

For the 2019 Road Improvement Project outlined in Resolution 2019-213, Springfield has contracted with American Asphalt and Milling Services LLC, after a public bidding process. The group will work towards the 2019 Road improvement project in town.

After the bidding process, American Asphalt received a contract in the amount not to exceed $348,341.41 cents.

The second construction resolution specifically targets repairs on Salter Street and Brook Street. After a public bidding process, the contract for the project was awarded to A.J.M. Contractors Inc., in an amount not to exceed $280,836 dollars.

The third and final resolution deals with the transfer of responsibilities in the CFO position. Long-time town employee Michael Quick is retiring from the position on July 31 and had made it clear to the board that he was looking for an orderly transition.

As a result, the decision was made to allow current Assistant CFO Diane Sherry time to gain first-hand experience in the duties of the CFO. This Resolution was passed with the belief the Sherry, who start on Aug.1, will be ready when she steps up into Quick's position.

Immediately, Sherry becomes a signee to the town's bank accounts and is authorized to execute and complete future certificates of available funds.

Speaking after the meeting, Committeeman Alex Keiser said it was vital to get the three resolutions passed now, instead of waiting until the next full meeting.

"It's important for the roadwork," Keiser said. "So the roadwork can start in the summer. We're trying not to do it during school time."

Keiser continued, saying; "Also, our next CFO needs to make sure that she has access to the accounts so that the transition continues to happen smoothly, as our amazing CFO Michael Quick is departing at the end of the month."
