SPRINGFIELD, NJ - In an email update, Springfield Township Deputy Mayor Chris Capodice announced that the township had received a sum of $35,000 across two grants to help with new recreation equipment and tree planting.

According to Capodice, earlier this week, the township was awarded a $30,000 grant from the Union County Kids Recreation Trust Fund and a $5,000 grant from Greening Union County.

As part of its efforts to improve recreational facilities in town, the township will match the Kids Recreation Trust Fund grant to finance new playground equipment and site amenities at two parks in town; Denham Park and Charles Cohn Memorial Park.

The upgraded equipment placed at the parks will include a Trigon Arch Climber, Rain Wheel Panel, Verve IV Arch, Arch Swingset, Athletic Arch, Snare Drum, Tom-Tom Drums, and an Apex Arch Climber, according to Capodice.

Additionally, the Greening Union County grant funds will help the Township to offset the cost of planting trees throughout Springfield.
