MILLBURN, NJ – Millburn Police Captain Michael Mulligan confirmed a press release from the Essex County Prosecutors office in regards to a fatal pedestrian incident that occurred in downtown Millburn last night.
Millburn Police Chief Brian Gilfedder and the Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, announced today the launch of an investigation into the fatal pedestrian incident that took place in the area of Lackawanna Place in Millburn. Virginia S. Thaler, 70, of Brooklyn was hit by a car as she attempted to cross the street.
The driver of the car stopped and called for help. Thaler was transported to Morristown Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 9:54 p.m.
As the investigation is active and ongoing, Captain Mulligan could not comment further. However, he did tell TAPinto Millburn/Short Hills that both the Millburn Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutors Office will be working the investigation together. Further, any releasable information will be provided as available.
At this time no charges have been filed.
