SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Springfield Firefighters and other first responders were called to Baltusrol Golf Club Tuesday afternoon for a small blaze that broke out in the clubhouse of the famed golf course.

Just before noon, the fire broke out on the third-floor side facing the golf course. That area is set up in a hotel room format for guests to stay in when they come to the course overnight. Shortly after the fire was reported, the Springfield Police Department worked to close off Shunpike Road between Eton Pace and Baltusrol Road.

Springfield's Fire, Police, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Office of Emergency Management (OEM) were joined by a truck and mass care mobile unit from Elizabeth. Union County EMS vehicles, Support Vehicles from Union and Cranford and a truck from Union as well.

Firefighters from Westfield and Rahway were also in reserve at the Springfield firehouse.

The fire was under control by quarter to one, although first responders kept Shunpike Road closed for a short while after to clean and secure the scene. It was reopened to traffic just after 2:00 p.m.
