SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The following is the Springfield Police Department Blotter for the month of October:
October 2 – A 28-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with harassment as a result of an investigation of a reported attempted luring in the area of Baltusrol Way.
October 9 – Officers responding to a burglar alarm activation at a business on South Springfield Avenue discovered a broken glass door. The business owner responded to the scene and reported a cash register had been stolen, and Detective Bureau personnel were called in to process the scene. A Detective responding to the scene observed an open garage door at a second business located on Morris Avenue. The business owner was contacted and confirmed a vehicle had been stolen from the garage. Further investigation lead Springfield Detectives to Newark, where they located the stolen vehicle. With the assistance of multiple surrounding agencies, the suspect, a 48-year-old Newark man, was located in Newark and taken into custody. He was charged with several counts of burglary, theft, and criminal mischief for the two reported burglaries, as well as a previous burglary on South Springfield Avenue reported on October 3, 2019. The suspect has also been charged by several other agencies for burglary and related charges in multiple jurisdictions.
October 11 – A 58-year-old Plainfield woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, and issued multiple summonses including driving under the influence in a school zone, and refusal to submit to a breath test as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Mountain Avenue.
October 14 – A 39-year-old Kenilworth woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Meisel Avenue.
October 17 – A 20-year-old Elizabeth man was charged with credit card fraud and theft of movable property. The charges are a culmination of an investigation by Detective Bureau personnel into an August 2019 report of fraudulent purchases made on the victim’s credit card, and subsequent theft of the purchased items from a Linden Avenue business.
October 20 – Officers were detailed to a Route 22 business on a report of a dispute. A 19-year-old Newark woman was arrested and charged with simple assault and reckless endangerment.
October 25 – A 33-year-old Scranton, PA woman was charged with fraud as a result of a Detective Bureau investigation of a July 2019 report of bad checks.
October 25 – A 30-year-old Hillside man was charged with forgery and title fraud as a result of a Detective Bureau investigation of motor vehicle fraud report received in January 2019.
October 26 – A 20-year-old Piscataway woman was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana as a result of a motor vehicle stop on Route 22.
October 27 – A 28-year-old Maplewood man was arrested and charged with driving under the influence after he was observed asleep at the wheel of his vehicle on South Springfield Avenue.
October 30 – Officers were detailed to a Morris Avenue business on a report of a shoplifter who fled the business on foot. The suspect was located by responding Officers in the area of Springfield Avenue and Main Street. The 36-year-old Newark man was arrested and charged with theft, hindering apprehension, possession of crack cocaine and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Officers made additional arrests on outstanding warrants out of Harrison, Garwood, Newark, Springfield, Maplewood, East Rutherford, Union, North Plainfield, and North Bergen.
