Dear Walton Parents/Guardians,
This afternoon, all staff and students evacuated Walton school at 2:45 p.m. due to the smell of smoke from a transformer in my office. The Springfield Fire Department were called, and they responded immediately and attended to the issue. All students and staff evacuated safely while the Fire Department were able to investigate.
Once we were cleared to re-enter at 3:03 p.m., students and staff entered the building in a peaceful manner. Although dismissal may have been delayed by a few minutes as the students needed to retrieve their items from the classrooms, I am extremely happy that our fire drills have proven to be effective.
I would like to Thank the Springfield Fire Department for their quick responsiveness. In addition, I would Thank the Walton staff and students for remaining calm and proceeding with protocol.
I would also like to Thank you, our parents/guardians, for remaining tranquil at dismissal. It is with your support, we are able to achieve success.
