CALDWELL, NJ — Senior guard DJ Alicea scored 21 points, hitting four 3-pointers to pace Dayton in a 45-39 loss to Caldwell in Caldwell Monday.
After an 18-18 halftime and leading by one point after the third quarter, Caldwell used a 14-9 fourth quarter to secure the win.
Senior Hank Morgan scored a team-high 14 points and sophomore Cristian Talavera added 12 with two 3-pointers to lead Caldwell (17-5), which has won two straight and five of its last seven games.
Alicea, who has 422 points (34 3-pointers) on the season, has scored in double figures in an amazing 69 straight games played and raised his school-leading boys' career total to 1,497 points.
Dayton (11-11) lost for just the second time in its last six games. The Bulldogs will play their last regular season game at Cranford Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
State Tournament Monday: The ninth-seeded Bulldogs will visit 8th-seeded American History in Newark in the first round of the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 Sectional Tournament on Monday, March 2.
The winner advances to Wednesday’s quarterfinal round on March 4 and will play the winner between 16th-seeded People’s Prep and top-seeded Dunellen.
