SPRINGFIELD, NJ — The Dayton boys basketball team got its star player back from a one-game absence and notched a much-needed win at home.
Senior guard DJ Alicea and junior Josh Jackson each added 19 points apiece to lead Dayton to a 54-38 victory over Roselle Park in Springfield.
Junior Mahki Cromartie posted seven points and senior Andrew Hornbuckle chipped in with five for Dayton (3-4), which used a 21-10 first quarter to take command. Dayton outscored Roselle Park, 29-17, in the second half to secure the win.
Alicea sat out Thursday’s 64-47 road loss to Roselle game has a precautionary measure due to a mile left ankle sprain he suffered in practice on Wednesday, but returned without missing a beat. He has now scored in double figures in 55 straight games played and is 44 points away from becoming the school’s all-time leading scorer.
Senior Shawn Roach had nine points and junior Asher Phillips and sophomore Aidenn Gorombey-Kelly each added eight apiece to pace Roselle Park (2-5), which has lost two straight and three of its last four games.
The Bulldogs host Johnson in another key UCC-Skyland divisional matchup on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. and hit the road to face Linden-based Sinai Christian on Thursday, also at 7:00 p.m.
