SPRINGFIELD, NJThe start of a big three-game home stand for the Dayton boys basketball team got off to a nice start Monday night.

Senior guard DJ Alicea scored a team-high 16 points and junior Josh Jackson added 12 to lead Dayton to a 46-39 victory over Eagle Academy of Newark in Springfield.

Junior Mike Kanarek posted eight points, sophomore Cameron Campbell-Miller continued his nice play of late contributing six points and Mahki Cromartie chipped in with four for Dayton (8-9), which has won four of its last five games.

Leading 19-16 at halftime, the Bulldogs used a strong 14-6 third quarter to take control.

Alicea, who has 318 points on the season, has now scored in double figures in 64 straight games played and raised his school-leading career men's total to 1,393 points.

Junior Monair Johnson scored a team-high 11 points and junior Gregory Cook added eight for Eagle Academy (10-8), which saw its two-game win streak snapped.

The Bulldogs, who look to get to the .500 mark for the first time this season, play the middle game of their three-game stretch Thursday versus Governor Livingston with first tip scheduled for 7 p.m.
