RAHWAY, NJ — The Dayton girls basketball team got some momentum Thursday heading into its Union County Tournament preliminary matchup on Saturday.

Senior Michelle Bellino scored 13 points with eight rebounds and sophomore Mya Sims-Taylor added 12 points to lead Dayton to a 51-23 victory over Rahway in Rahway.

Senior Haeley Santos registered 11 points with three 3-pointers, four rebounds and three steals and junior Aiyona Wood chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and four steals for the Bulldogs (6-13), which snapped a four-game losing streak and won its first road matchup of the season (1-7).

Leading 7-6 after the first quarter, the Bulldogs took control of the game with a 12-3 second quarter to take a 19-9 halftime advantage in the locker room.

Dayton outscored Rahway, 32-14, in the second half to secure the win.



Sophomore Uloma Nwaka had nine points and junior Anissa Crumpton added seven for Rahway (5-13), which has lost three straight and seven of its last 10 games.

UCT starts Saturday: The 16th-seeded Bulldogs will host 17th-seeded Linden in the preliminary round of the Union County Tournament on Saturday with first tipoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The winner advances to the first round and will visit top-seeded Westfield on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 4:00 p.m.

State Tournament Seed announced: Dayton is the 14th seed in the upcoming NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 1 Sectional Tournament and will visit third-seeded Glen Ridge in first round action on Monday, March 2 at 5:00 p.m.



The winner advances to Wednesday’s quarterfinals and will play the winner between 11th-seeded Ridgefield and sixth-seeded Shabazz.
