JACKSON, NJ - Alexis Maul scored two goals, including the game-winner with 5:11 remaining, to lift Southern to a 9-8 victory over Jackson Memorial in Jackson. This is Maul's second game winning goal of the season.
Lauryn Flynn tallied three goals, Brooke Little and Colleen Mason each added a goal and an assist. Brooke Ciaccio and Alina Devane each tallied one goal each for Southern.
Clare McCarthy had six saves in the win.
Heather Devaney scored a game-high four goals for Jackson. Sabrina Chandler scored twice and had two assists to lead Jackson Memorial..
"The girls really pulled together as a team today," said Southern Coach Lori Johnson. "We were missing a couple players and we were still able to pull out the win. Being able to do that is what is makes a solid program. We are not 'just a team.'"
Coach Johnson has worked extremely hard leading Southern. The program is dedicated to assisting youths in Stafford and Southern Ocean County develop lacrosse skills. The hard work is paying off as this high school program is on the rise.
The Rams have already qualified for the Shore Conference Tournament. The cutoff date is this Friday, May 5 and qualifying teams must have a .500 record by Friday evening.
Currently the Rams record is 9-3. Coach Johnson is looking for the Rams to continue playing well while striving towards advancing deep into both the Shore Conference and State tournaments.
Southern's next contest is Monday at Brick Memorial, the Mustangs have a record of 5-6 on the season.
