BARNEGAT, NJ - A Barnegat residet, Curtis Geather, 33 was arrested on February 7, 2019 by Detectives from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit and Narcotics Strike Force, as well as Detectives from the Berkeley Township Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
They charged Geathers with Strict Liability Drug Induced Death in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:35-9a.
According to the press release, on January 10, 2019, officers from the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department were dispatched to a local residence for a report of an unresponsive female.
The female was transported to Ocean Medical Center where she passed on January 12, 2019.
A subsequent investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Narcotics Strike Force and Point Pleasant Police Department revealed that Geathers was the supplier of heroin and fentanyl that was sold to the victim on January 10, 2019, the Ocean County Prosecutor stated. .
According to the toxicology report, the heroin and fentanyl supplied by Geathers matched the
heroin and fentanyl located in the victim’s system. The toxicology report confirmed that the heroin and
fentanyl found in the victim’s system were the cause of her death, the report said.
Geathers was taken to the Point Pleasant Borough Police Department for processing and then transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is currently lodged pending a detention hearing.
