TOMS RIVER, NJ - Jack Conrad and Trent Markley each scored twice to lift fifth-seeded Southern to an 8-1 win over 12th-seeded Manalapan in the first round of the Handchen Cup at Winding River Rink in Toms River.
Paul Keyes had a goal and two assists and Hunter Bello had three assists for Southern. David Lytle had a goal and an assist, while Nicholas Englebert and Tyler Golomb each scored in the win. Cameron Conrad made 27 saves.
"The boys knew what they had to do tonight it was a great win by the entire squad, said Coach Matt Hayes. "Intensity was where it needed to be by players and coaching staff. As a group our focus shifts to Tuesday for our showdown with the winner of Freehold Township and Howell game."
Freddie Brutto had a goal for Manalapan. Southern will take on the winner of fourth-seeded Freehold Township and 13 seeded Howell in the semifinals on Tuesday.
