TRENTON,NJ- Midnight Friday evening, Governor Chris Christie issued an executive order to shut down the New Jersey Government as budget negotiations could not come to common ground. The Governor took to twitter claiming

"The Legislature’s inability to approve an Fiscal Year 2018 State Budget by the June 30th deadline has forced the closure of state government."

He also claims Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto "unneccessarily stalled the budget process..inconveniencing everyone living in our state."

The shutdown came at midnight last night in a state of emergency order, closing non-essential state offices around the state. The order affects the Governors family, closing Island Beach State Park, where they planned to spend the holiday weekend.

A special session was called by Governor Christie to take place 11:00 Saturday morning at the State House. A government shut down has not happened in the state of New Jersey in eleven years and will impact many weekend plans around the state and possible fire work displays if an agreement is not reached.

As of right now all state parks are officially closed and the special session has convened in the state house.
