TOMS RIVER — The Southern Regional football team defeated Toms River North 48-14 on Saturday afternoon in Toms River. This is the first time the Rams have started their season 3-0 since 2008.
Jaiden Brown ran for 240 yards on 12 carries with three touchdowns to lead Southern.
Brown had a 50-yard touchdown in the first quarter and followed that with a 66-yard touchdown run. An 85-yard interception return for a touchdown by Xavier Hendricks put Southern up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
Toms River North scored on a one yard touchdown run by Jordan Grey. Southern answered with Brown breaking out on a 65-yard run which set up his 1-yard TD run to put Southern up 28-7.
The Mariners countered with a strong drive but were stopped by the Rams at the one-yard line. Southern embarked on a 99-yard drive and scored with a 10-yard touchdown pass by Taylor Munt to Jay Silva, putting Southern up 34-7 at the half.
In the second half Nick Fabrizzio had a 37-yard touchdown run and Nate Committee scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter.
Southern has outscored opponents 112-47 to open the 2020 season. Brown has rushed for 581 yards and nine touchdowns in three games this season.
