STAFFORD - Coach John Pampalone's Southern Lacrosse team had a major 16-3 victory over Freehold Township on Wednesday. The Rams led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Southern's senior Kyle Mulrane scored the 100th goal of his career. Nick Fontana scored five goals and had two assists. Johnson finished with four goals and two assists. Dylan Smith scored three goals for the Rams. Southern's goalie Tristen Farina had an excellent game with 21 saves.
The Rams win was significant because Freehold Township is an excellent team and has been ranked higher than Southern in a number of area polls. Freehold Township recently defeated Howell 14-4 and Southern was defeated by Howell 11-9 in their first contest of the season on March 29. It seems that the Rams are improving and really starting to gel as a team.
"We have a very young but talented team both grade wise and with their varsity experience. It has taken a little while for this team to gel," said Coach John Pampalone. "The horrible weather this spring really hurt. We lost a lot of scrimmages and we had to learn how to play together and at the varsity level. The Howell game (11-9 loss) was really a wake up call for us. I said early on that this team would be a much different team at the end of April then at the end of March and today was a great program win."
