Labor Day Structure Fire in Stafford Township

STAFFORD - In the afternoon on Labor Day a structure fire broke out at the Clayton Block Company site at the end of Beachview Avenue in Manahawkin.  The fire broke out at approximately 4 p.m. An older construction trailer was on fire.  Stafford Township Police report that while the fire was being extinguished a propane tank on the property exploded.  As a result of the explosion, a State Forest Fire Service member sustained a minor arm injury.  He was treated at the scene.  
The Stafford Police and the following other agencies responded to the fire:  Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CSI Unit, the State Forest Fire Service, the Stafford Township Fire Company, the Barnegat Township Fire Company, and the Stafford Township First Aid Squad.

Stafford Township Police Detective Drew Smith and the Ocean County Fire Marshall’s Office are investigating.  Stafford Police are requesting that if anyone has information regarding this incident, please contact Detective Smith at (609) 597-8581.
