1:32 PM Update from Stafford Police

At approximately 10:17AM, a stolen vehicle (white 2015 Chevy Silverado from Hammonton, NJ) was located at the CVS Drugstore on West Bay Avenue in Barnegat, N.J. The suspect driving the vehicle is believed to be Arthur Buckle (pictured) who is an escaped fugitive from Ancora (Hammonton), N.J.

As a precautionary measure, all schools in Stafford were advised to go into "shelter in place" thereafter. Officers from the Barnegat Twp Police Department, Ocean County Sheriffs Department, New Jersey Department of Corrections Fugitive Task Force, Ocean County Special Operations Group, Ocean County SWAT Team, New Jersey State Police, Ocean Township Police Department, and Stafford Township Police Department are assisting with area searches, patrols, and K-9 Tracks along the Garden State Parkway and other areas of Barnegat.

The Stafford Township Police Department are working closely with our schools to assist with dismissals and we will have an officer at each school at those dismissal times. We are also working closely with the Barnegat PD to stay on top of information as it develops.

1:04 PM Update STAFFORD

Scanner News reports prisoner left car at CVS in Barnegat and escaped on foot into area woods.  Many local police agencies are in pursuit. 

12:58  LBI  Clarification, there is no evidence that prisoner went to LBI area.  Schools are locked down as extra precaution.

Stafford schools added to lock down list due to the escaped prisoner. 

LBI official says lockdown just precautionary, the vehicle that prisoner was driving is in Barnegat. Don't panic. No info if man was apprehended.

LONG BEACH ISLAND-  12:05 p.m.
Additional info.  The prisoner who escaped from Bayside Prison in Hammonton stole a car in Atlantic County and was in Barnegat.  

TAPinto has received notice that the Long Beach Island schools are on lockdown.  It is unclear what the specifics are related to this lockdown. 

Earlier this morning Barnegat Schools went into lockdown and as of 11:56 a.m. They remain in that lockdown. That report came from Barnegat police.
