MADISON – A Madison policeman got a 17-year-old girl to send him pictures of herself naked, an action that resulted in him pleading guilty today to possession of child pornography and losing his job, said officials.

As part of the plea bargain, the officer, Chad Rybka, 33, of Bernards Township, resigned his post with the Madison Police Department and agreed he cannot accept future public employment, said Morris County Prosecutor Frederic Knapp and Madison Police Chief Darren Dachisen in a press release. Knapp and Dachisen said Rybka had been a Madison officer since August 2007.

According to the officials, law enforcement became aware of Rybka’s actions after police in Brunswick, Ohio found out, in February, the girl was using a Twitter account to send nude photos to a man “at his request.”

Investigators found out the man was Rybka and that he had been communicating with the girl for four to six months on Twitter’s “messenger” application, said Knapp and Dachisen. “The Brunswick Division of Police reported the matter to the Madison Police Department, who immediately advised the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office,” they said. “A subsequent investigation led by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit determined that Rybka was in possession of a number of nude images of the victim.”

Rybka was suspended as soon as the probe determined his involvement, said the officials.

“The Madison Police Department has been proudly serving the Borough of Madison since 1890 and has zero tolerance for any police officer misconduct that adversely effects the borough’s reputation or the integrity of the police department,” said Dachisen. “The actions of one individual does not define our agency and the outstanding work my officers do on a daily basis.”
