BRIGHTON BEACH, NJ - This past Sunday February 21 from 1 p.m. and on, locals and people from afar came out to attend the annual Daytona 500 Beef-N-Beer at Kubel's Too Tavern to celebrate in remembrance of Margaret Ellen Lyons.

Each year this event benefits the Margaret E. Lyons Memorial Scholarship Fund started by Kevin and Debbie Lyons. Through this they award local high school students scholarship money to use towards college expenses every year while remembering their daughter.

Kevin and Debbie Lyons wrote in a letter before the event:

For those of you that may not know, on April 17th, 1998, our daughter Maggie was born into our family. Little did we know that she was born with a major heart defect and after surgery, succumbed to her illness 10 days later.

After a few years, we thought we would remember her in a happy way by starting a scholarship in her name. Now 14 years later we have raised over $30,000 and last year alone awarded over $6,000.

This years event was a great success with a total of 125 people in attendance. There was live entertainment from the Ritchie Ranno & The All Stars band, to bagpipers, and even their youngest daughter, Kiera Lyons, who wowed the crowd with her yearly repeating Taylor Swift performances. A total of $4,130 was raised the day of from donations, 50/50, and door prize raffles, but checks of donations are still coming in from those that could not attend.

Holly Egan of Beach Haven West posted the picture of Kevin on the microphone with the caption, "Kevin and Debbie...COMMUNITY, LOVE, SUPPORT. That's what we do..sometimes all in one amazing weekend of fundraising! Love this place. #lbi #family #MargaretELyons"

"Everyone there had a wonderful time and we feel so loved that they came out to celebrate our daughter with us," said Debbie.

Kevin Lyons got on the microphone towards the end of the event to thank everyone involved in the day and for the local businesses that donated gifts for the auction.

They both would like to extend another big thanks to Kubels Too owner, Kenny Egan, as well as the entire staff for being so generous each year. They would also like to thank their friend Stuart Altman who paid for the Ritchie Ranno & The All Stars band. Another special thanks goes to the Ocean County Emerald Society Pipers and Drums who played during the fundraiser as well.

Kevin and Debbie said, "We are so thankful to our family, friends, and community for being so generous because through this we have been able to give over $30,000 to local students for college these past 14 years." They also added, "It's a wonderful way to honor our daughter, Maggie."

Each year the Beef-N-Beer is held during the Daytona 500, so make sure to mark your calendars for 2017.
