STAFFORD - Local Stafford and LBI residents take special pride while cheering on their hometown hero Martin Truex Jr. this afternoon. Martin is competing in the Nascar Cup Series Championship race at 3 p.m. The race will be 267 laps, which accounts to 440.5 miles at the Homestead-Miami Speedway. The race will be live on NBC TV.
Truex has had the best season of his career. He started the season strong and had seven victories. His first came on March 12 at the Las Vegas Speedway. He was victorious again on May 13 at the Go Bowling 400 race in Kansas. Truex next won on July 9 in Kentucky in the Quaker State 400. On August 7 Martin won in Watkins Glen, NY in the I Love New York Classic. Then on September 17 he was slimed at the Chicago Speedway after winning the Tales of the Turtles 400 race. The next win was at the Bank of America 500 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct. 8. His final victory was in the Hollywood Casino 400 at the Kansas Speedway on Oct. 22.
In today's race he is competing against Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Brad Keselowski, Martin Truex Jr.. All except Truex have experience winning Cup series championships races except Martin.
Truex has stayed connected to his hometown through the years and hosts a special Martin Truex Jr. Foundation event in our area each year. His foundation has been extremely generous donating to many great causes.
