STAFFORD, NJ - Yesterday we reported on a overturned vehicle near the Ice Cream Shop of Manahawkin that caused Route 9 to be closed from Bay Avenue to Hilliard Drive. Approximately two hours after the closing, southbound on Route 9 was reopened while detours were in effect for many hours for the northbound section of Route 9.

According to the Stafford Township Police Department, yesterday at 1:37 p.m. they responded to an overturned vehicle on Route 9 near Beach Avenue. The vehicle was a box truck operated by David Trettin, 41 of Tuckerton.

Trettin was driving southbound on Route 9 when he crossed over the center line striking a utility pole, the front porch of the Ice Cream Shop of Manahawkin, which then led the box truck to tip over onto the front property of the ReMax.

Trettin sustained minor injuries from the collision and refused any medical treatment by Stafford EMS.

Route 9 traffic was diverted for several hours due to a pole replacement by Atlantic City Electric as well as a hazardous material cleanup, said the police department.

Trettin was issued a Careless Driving summons due to the collision.
