STAFFORD, NJ - On Sunday morning local Policemens Benevolence Associations hosted a benefit pancake breakfast at TGI Fridays in Manahawkin. The event raised over $600.00 for the NJ Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit NJ's local Special Olympics.
Kevin Lyons and Chuck Schnell led Sunday's effort with the help of a number of great volunteers. The police departments involved in this fundraiser included Lacey, Long Beach Township, Stafford and Barnegat.
The 2016 Torch Run will take place on Friday, June 10th with more than 3,000 officers taking to the streets of their local communities on one of 26 separate routes to help carry the "Flame of Hope" to the Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games.
The culmination of the run is the lighting of the Special Olympics New Jersey cauldron at the Opening Ceremony to officially kick off the 2016 Summer Games, an event that features more than 2,500 Special Olympics athletes.
Kevin Lyons stated that "the dedication that the members of the law enforcement community shows to the public every day is just a part of what they do. The compassion and care they have for these special athletes shows the real men and women behind the badge"
The Special Olympics of New Jersey will take place June 10-12th at the College of New Jersey in Ewing Township.
