STAFFORD, NJ - The Stafford Township Police Department responded to a three-vehicle crash on Route 72 near milepost 28 Tuesday morning.

Investigation revealed that a vehicle operated by Christopher Potts, 42, of Manahawkin was stopped in traffic on Route 72. As he was stopped in traffic, Potts’s pickup truck was struck in the rear at 7:42 a.m. by a vehicle which was operated by Thomas Bernabeo, 76, of Manahawkin. As a result of the crash, the driver of the third vehicle Kathy Guerrero, 46, of Tuckerton struck the rear of the second vehicle operated by Bernabeo.

Route 72 was temporarily shut down on both directions for more than an hour.

Bernabeo and his wife, Patricia Ann, 74, complained of chest pains and were transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment. Potts sustained a lower back injury and was also transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center for treatment.
