LONG BEACH ISLAND - The Labor Day weekend has passed. Many are wondering which beaches will have lifeguards. September can be a very dangerous month in the surf considering we are entering the height of the hurricane season.
Here is the list of guarded beaches and dates on Long Beach Island beginning Tuesday, September 5.
Ship Bottom is providing extensive protection. The Ship Bottom Beach Patrol will be on duty on Seventh, 15th and 20th streets from today, Tuesday September 5 through September 30.
In Harvey Cedars the beaches at Middlesex Avenue and 80th Street will be guarded each day through Sunday, Sept. 10.
Beginning Monday, Sept. 11, the Middlesex Avenue beach will be guarded each day through Sunday, Sept. 31. The 80th Street beach will be guarded on weekends through Sunday, September 31. There will also be mobile patrols for areas without guards.
In Beach Haven there will only be lifeguards on the next two weekends on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10 and Saturday and Sunday September 16 and 17. The guards will be at the Centre Street beach.
Barnegat Light will be guarded at the 22nd Street beach the next two weekends, SeSaturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10 and Saturday and Sunday September 16 and 17.
Long Beach Township will have lifeguards on the 68 Street beach in Brant Beach on Saturdays and Sundays until October, weather permitting.
Surf City will have the 12th through 14th street beaches open until Sunday, September 10. All other beaches will be swim at your own risk. There will be lifeguards on the beaches in Surf City after September 10.
