SOUTH BRUNSWICK - The Southern Regional Boys Volleyball squad was victorious over Bayonne on Tuesday in the NJSIAA State semifinal contest winning 25-20 and 25-13 in two games.
Coach Eric Maxwell's powerful program has advanced to the state final game for ten consecutive years. Southern's program is built for pressure. Maxwell is willing to take on the toughest competition to get his squad to grow to excellence. Southern lost four contests this season which Maxwell has always beneficial in preparing his team to reach their season goal to win the outright NJ championship.
"I am proud of the boys for battling tonight. We didn't play our best match of the season but we fought hard and stuck together. Found ourselves at 20-20 in game won and finished strong," said Coach Maxwell. "Went on a huge 8-0 run in game two to take control at 12-6. We are excited for the opportunity to play for another State Championship."
Mike Andriani had 11 digs and Matt Jones had 12 for the Rams. Arvind Kumar registered 9 service, 3 blocks and 6 kills. Shane Bent chipped in with 6 kills and 6 digs in the contest. Matt Maxwell led with 22 assists for the Rams.
Southern will return to South Brunswick on Thursday at 5 p.m. to take on Old Bridge who defeated Fair Lawn 25-20 and 25-16.
