Southern Defeated 6-0 by Cherokee in State Softball Tourney Action

MARLTON - Karly Messina tossed a one-hit shutout with two walks to power sixth-seeded Cherokee to a 6-0 win over 11th-seeded Southern in the first round of the South Jersey, Group 4 tournament in Marlton.

Anna Messina had a big game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three singles, a run and three RBI. Emma Gilmore collected two singles and three runs of her own. Jordyn Deveney drove in a run and Alexis Armstrong scored twice.

Keeley Hummelreich picked up the lone hit for Southern.Tatiyana Ford allowed one earned run on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings.

The Rams host Raritan in a first round contest on Tuesday in the Shore Conference Tournament.
