STAFFORD, NJ - The Southern Regional Girls Basketball team came out victorious after an exciting contest tonight against Cherry Hill East by a score of 48-43. Southern is the number 5 seed in South Jersey Group 4 and Cherry Hill East was seeded 12th. Cherry Hill East ran a fast paced, up and down style of offense. Their speed and endurance challenged the Rams. Yamilis Villegas was a challenge for Southern to cover. Villegas scored 16 to lead Cherry Hill East. Kiera Bell followed her with 14 points. Southern did a good job neutralizing her strength and height on the inside.
Shauna McHale led Southern with 17 points. Morgan Henderson scored 11 and Bianca Nicolini scored 9 for Southern. Henderson made a couple of key outside shots in the fourth quarter. Bianca Nicolini scored on a number of penetration plays in the paint to catapult the Rams to the victory. Sophomore Mikayla Nicolini also chipped in with 7 points.
Southern will advance to the second round on Thursday vs. the winner of 13th seeded Eastern and 4th seeded Rancocas Valley.
