SICKLERVILLE, NJ - The Southern Regional Girls Swim team won a dramatic victory today in the second round of the NJSIAA state tournament by defeating Eastern Regional 90-80.  The meet took place at the Camden County Vocational School pool in Sicklerville.

The Rams scored the upset win by defeating the fourth seeded Eastern Vikings.  Southern is the number five seed.   The Rams advance to play against top seeded Cherry Hill East on Monday at 5pm at the same location.

"This is the 37th swim team that I have coached in my life, in some capacity.  I have been at Southern for 17 years and  this team has been surprising me all season long," said Coach Bill Entriken.  "This squad has now won two state tournament meets.  In those two meets, we have only taken first place 6 times in 22 total events.  Our victories show how much of a team sport it swimming is.  The huge momentum swing came in the 50 Freestyle when Laura Patterson, Abigail Malandro, and Hannah Skimmons went 1-2-3.  That propelled us to our 1st lead of the meet and we never trailed again at any point in the contest," Entriken continued.  "Eastern tied it up twice but then our girls went 1-2 in the 200 Freestyle Relay which gave us a 10 point lead with only 3 events to go.  We had plenty of power still left for those three events as we held that lead and won 90-80."

Winners for Southern included Abigael Coughlin in the 200 Freestyle, Laura Patterson in the 50 Freestyle, Jacqueline Kilcommons in the 100 Backstroke and the 400 Freestyle team of Patterson, Hannah Skimmons, Abigail Malandro and Gabriella Cabaron.
