STAFFORD — The Rams were down 1-0 until Southern's Kevin Kiernan scored to tie the contest in the final 10 seconds of regulation to force overtime. Unfortunately the Rams fell short in overtime and lost in this Shore Conference Tournament quarterfinal game against Manasquan.
The overtime periods ended without a score and the contest went into a shootout. Manasquan converted eight of nine attempts during the shootout to seal the victory.
Manasquan's Simon Cardenas scored the first goal of the contest and was assisted by Chris Pierro early in the second half. It looked like the contest would end 1-0 at that point as regulation winded down. Southern's Kevin Kiernan got clear near the goal and scored in front of the goal to tie the contest in dramatic fashion with the 10 seconds left in the contest. .
In the shootout, the Rams were down a bit since they lost their starting goalkeeper Kayce Bennet early in the contest with a head injury. Ryan Leavitt had to step in for the remainder of the contest. Leavitt stopped one shootout goal, but Chris Weinstein, Manasquan's keeper stopped two shots to secure the victory.
Manasquan will take on CBA at Shore Regional on Saturday.
