STAFFORD - Southern opened up with a 6-0 lead when senior Will Devane blocked a punt and sophomore Jaiden Brown scored on a 21-yard touchdown on the Rams' first offensive play of the contest.
A pair of first half touchdowns and a field goal gave Toms River North just enough to defeat Southern 17-12 last night at Southern. Southern gave the Shore Sports Network's #5 ranked team a great run for the money in the contest.
Matt Spalletta scored what proved to be TR North's final touchdown in the second quarter off a short yardage run. Spalleta set up the score by blocking a punt on the previous series.
Toms River North (2-0) took a 10-6 lead when Justin Burkert drove in a 40-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Dominick Jacob also contributed to the win by throwing an 80-yard scoring strike to Jake Kazanowsky in the opening quarter.
Jaiden Brown ran in two touchdowns for Southern (1-1), one of which was a 59-yarder in the third quarter.
