STAFFORD, NJ - Coach John Stout's Southern Regional wrestling squad is ready for quarterfinal action in Region 8 which takes place on Friday evening, 5:30 p.m. at Egg Harbor Township High School.
Southern has 7 wrestlers competing Friday.
Owen Kretschmer, junior has a 24-8 record at 113 lbs. He is the #4 seed. He opens up on Friday with District 32 Champion, Anthony Roman (32-3) of Hammonton. The winner of that bout is most likely going to face the top-seed, Antonio Mininno of Gateway, last year's Region 7 Champ at 113 lbs. .
Sebastian Delligatti, a sophomore is seeded #5 in the 120 lb. weight class. He had a pin on Wednesday night moving him to the quarterfinals against #4 seed Alec Baisch of Washington Twp. Baisch, who is making his 3rd Region appearance, defeated Delligatti, 8-0, in the District 29 Final.
Matt Barnett is the number 2 seed in the region at 132 lbs. Matt had a 21-7 record during the season. Barnett is a returning State-qualifier, finishing 3rd in Region 6 last season. Barnett will face District 30 Champ, Tim Sparks (33-3) of Gateway.
Nicholas O'Connell is the number seed at 145 lbs. The sophomore had a 28-5 record during the season. O'Connell earned the #1 seed on the strength of his Division 29 Finals win over #2 Evan Fisler of Washington, a 2-time Division 30 champ and a State-qualifier in 2015.
O'Connell will open the quarters with the Divsion 31 Champ, Tom Cuffari (22-4) of Highland.
Dan Gorman, is seeded fifth at 152 lbs. His record was 21-10 on the season. Dan is only a sophomore.
Gorman defeated Clearview's Matt Gray, 4-1, in the preliminary round on Wednesday nihgt. Gorman will face #4 Seth Summers (30-8) of Delsea, the District 31 Champion.
John Stout, a 160 lb sophomore is seeded 8th in the region. John had a 21-12 record this season. Stout won in the preliminary round on Wednesday night with a a 7-5 win over #9 Colin Wexler of Kingsway. He will now face the top-seed, Jake Maxwell (35-1) of Buena, a 6th-place finisher in the State in 2015.
Dan Lynch The 220 lb senior is seeded #7 and he had an overall record of 19-7. Lynch was the District 29 champoino and he opens up with a quarterfinal bout against the #2 seed, Ryan Lynd (30-6) of St Augustine, the District 32 runner-up.
