STAFFORD - Two Southern Regional alumni have been recognized for their athletic achievements this past week.
Southern Regional Wrestling Alum and current Stevens Institute of Technology senior Zach Wilhelm recently became Steven's all-time leader in wins with 129.
"I am really happy for Zach to be able to hold this record," head coach Joe Favia commented in an article on the Steven's Institute wrestlingwebsite.. "He positively represents our program in every aspect of his life [and] just does it right."
"What people don't realize is that Zach didn't come to Stevens with the goal of being the Stevens wins leader," Favia continued. "His goal is to be the best wrestler in the country and this record is just a testament that, for the past three and a half years, [Zach] has been living the right lifestyle to achieve his goal. I am looking forward to him building on the record for all the right reasons."
Wilhelm, also holds the program's record for wins in a single season with 48, set during the 2016-17 season, passed alumnus Rob Murray, who concluded his four-year career with 128 victories.
"It's a nice achievement," Wilhlem said of his achievement. "It lets me know that I have contributed positively to this team for the past four years, but at the end of the day, I am not after the wins record; I am after a National Championship, and all of the tournament titles and accomplishments that come along the way are just pats on the back that I am going in the right direction."
