STAFFORD, NJ – The Southern Regional High School football squad under Coach Chuck Donohue open their season tonight, Friday, 7 p.m. at home against Shore Conference Class A South opponent Central Regional High School.
The Rams are entering their 59th season of football. The field is named after former coach Ron Emmert and tonight the winner of this matchup will take home the Boyd-Emmert Trophy.
The Rams are coming off a 4-6 record in 2015. The Rams were young last season and return 19 starters this year. Southern competes in the perennially competitive and powerful Shore Conference Class A South.
In the 2015 opener, the Rams lost a tough 27-20 contest to Central. This first game is critical to get Southern off to strong start. Central finished the season with a record of 6-4.
Southern’s returning starters include:
Jesse Amirr, Vinnie Miele, Joe Miele, Chris Citarella, Sam Cammarata, Dane Walker, Matt Bleichner, Matt Barnett, Dylan Lane, Devin Vande Velde, Zach Otte, Mike Levine, Ryan Bakker, Derek Wilson, Jackson Donahower and Nick Roman.
Coach Donohue expects the following newcomers to make an impact this year on the club. They are:
