Southern Regional High School Security Guard Who Impacted Many Lives Dies Suddenly Saturday Morning

STAFFORD, NJ - Richard Baran, of Forked River died on the Garden State Parkway behind the wheel early Saturday morning.  No other vehicles were involved in the incident.  NJ State Police reported today that after an autopsy he likely passed from a cardiac condition.  Mr. Baran was driving northbound on the Garden State Parkway near mile marker 67.9.

Baran was a security guard at Southern Regional High School for approximately 20 years.  He was retired and this was his second career.  Many on social network posts today have remarked that he was a kind, caring and loving person who made an impact on other's lives.  

The school district is ready to meet with staff and students with support after Baran's sudden death.  According to police reports, there were no other injuries when Baran's vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway.
