STAFFORD - On Wednesday of this week, Southern Regional High School students and ROTC cadets planted flags on the lawn of the school. Each flag is dedicated to a service member killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. 6,997 flags were planted.
Three of those flags represent Southern Regional High School students who lost their lives serving our great nation. They are:
- Army Specialist Kareem Khan, class of 2005, killed in action in Iraq in 2007
- US Navy member Arthur J. Platt, class of 1978, killed in a military plane crash
- US Marine Corps member Lance Corporal Walter Horner, class of 1964, killed in action in Vietnam in 1967
This morning a community observance was held to pay tribute to all branches of the military and recognize past and present service members.
