Southern Regional Wrestlers Preparing for Region Eight Tourney Which Kicks off Wednesday Night at Egg Harbor Township

STAFFORD - The Southern Regional Rams are gearing up for the Region 8 State Tournament which begins on Wednesday at Egg Harbor Township High School.  

The schedule includes the preliminaries on Wednesday, quarterfinals on Friday, semifinals, wrestlebacks, placement matches and finals on Saturday.  

The Rams as a team are coming off the District 29 team title they won on Saturday at Kingway Regional.  The Rams were victorious due to their team depth.  They Rams finished with 247.5 points.

Southern has 12 wrestlers who are advancing into the Region 8 tournament. Nick Pepe (145), John Stout (170) and Matthew Barnett (132) were victorious and crowned 2018 District 29 champions. 

In Region 8, there are a number of athletes returning who were champions in 2017. 

  • Dante Minnino from Gateway Regional who is wrestling at 113 this year was champ at 106 lbs. 
  • Antonio Minnino from Gateway was champ at 113 in 2016 and 2017.  He will be competing at 120 lbs this year.  
  • Quinn Kinner from Kingsway at 138 was champ in 2017 at 132 lbs and in 2016 at 126 and 2015 at 106 lbs. 
  • Bill Janzer from Delsea at 182 was champ in 2017 at 170 and champ in 2016 at 160 lbs.
