Stafford Man Seriously Injured in Crash at Route 72 and Lighthouse Drive

STAFFORD, NJ - Stafford Township Police reported today that Joshua R. Handel, 20 years old who lives in Stafford Township was seriously injured in an auto accident.  

Handel was driving westbound on Route 72 near Lighthouse Drive when he struck a utility pole. The accident happened on Monday at approximately 10:30 a.m.  The Stafford Township Police Department responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle crash involving a black sedan that struck a utility pole.  Handel's vehicle left the roadway and struck the utility pole as he was approaching Lighthouse Drive.  
 
As a result of the impact with the utility pole, Mr. Handel sustained internal injuries.  Mr. Handel was flown by helicopter to the Atlantic City Trauma Center for medical evaluation and treatment.

Traffic on Route 72 was detoured around the scene through Ocean Acres for approximately 30 minutes.  Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.  
 
This incident is still under investigation by Ptl. Allen Jillson.
 
Assisting on scene were the Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Company, the Stafford Township Volunteer EMS and the MONOC paramedics.
