STAFFORD, NJ - On Wednesday September 7, 2016 the Stafford Police Department responded to a two-vehicle head-on collision. The collision occurred at approximately 7:36 p.m. on Route 9 at Mayetta Landing Road.  The collision caused Route 9 to be detoured around the crash scene for about 4 hours last night.

The driver of the first car was Paige Spano, 20 of Tuckerton, NJ and the driver of the second car was Eileen King, 51 of Cedar Run, NJ.

The police report stated that Spano was traveling south on Route 9 in a 1995 Geo Metro approaching the intersection of Mayetta Landing Road when a 2013 Chrysler 300 operated by King crossed over the center line crashing into Spano's vehicle.

Due to the head-on collision, Spano suffered extensive injuries and was airlifted by PennStar to Atlantic City Trauma Center for treatment.

King was also transported from the scene to Southern Ocean Medical Center for minor injuries by Stafford EMS. King was not alone in the car during the collision and her juvenile passenger, age 5 was not in a child restraint and suffered moderate injuries. The juvenile was airlifted by MonOc to the Jersey Shore Trauma Center and was expected to be released shortly after after the report was made last night. 

The police are still investigating the reason King crossed over the center line, however she was charged of Reckless Driving, Failure to Maintain Lane, and Failure to secure a child in a child restraint.

The collision is currently under investigation by Stafford Police Traffic Safety Officer Pascale and the by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.  Any witnesses are asked to contact 609-597-1189 X8436.
