Stafford's Mike Gesicki Has Big Game in 41-14 Victory Over Iowa

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Southern Regional Alum Mike Gesicki is having a strong season playing tight end for the Penn State Nittany Lions football team.  Penn State defeated Iowa 41-14 on Saturday at Beaver Stadium in State College, PA.  Before the season started, Mike was nominated as a potential John Mackey Award winner, which recognizes the best tight end in college football.  

On Saturday night Mike caught 4 passes from quarterback Trace McSorley for 65 yards.  He is an important part of the Penn State's offense. One catch went for 43 yards that was just short of a touchdown.  On another play he made a reception and barreled though a defender to extend his catch an additional five yards.  He had an impressive outing against Iowa.  Mike is the second leading receiver on the team with 32 catches for 411 yards.  

Running back Saquan Barclay is having a fantastic season.  He ran for 169 yards on 20 carries against Iowa.  He should be in the pool of potential Heisman Award candidates for 2016.

Penn State has some of the best skill position players in the nation.  They are all underclassmen.  Penn State has a great young linebacker who played for Rob Davis at Barnegat, Sophomore Manny Bowen who is having another fine season.     

The best victory for PSU was the shocking win against Ohio State on October 22 by a score of 24-21.  At the time Ohio State was the second ranked team in the nation.  

Penn State's record improves to 7-2.  If they continue playing strong, they have the potential to finish 10-2 on the season.  Their next contest is at Indiana on Saturday, November 12.  The Nittany Lions travel to NJ to face Rutgers on November 19 and end the regular season at home against Michigan State.  Michigan State is having a sub-par season in 2016.  This Penn State team can expect an invitation to a prestigious bowl..   

Penn State is currently ranked number 12 in the Associated Press College poll. .
